In operation, powerful components with high levels of interference and highly sensitive electronics are often operated close to one another. Voltage fluctuations or HF and LF signals should not cause any impairments, such as permanent or temporary malfunctions. In operation, electronic and electrical devices, systems, and installations must not be impaired by surge voltages. Surge voltages, such as atmospheric discharges (lightning strikes), short circuits, or significant switching overvoltages (switching capacitor banks), involve currents in the kV / kA range and rise times in the microsecond range. These voltages can exhibit a broadband spectrum up to several MHz.
